How to improve the gas barrier performance of PET bottles for cosmetics

?PET bottle has a strong application, widely used in daily necessities, daily chemical packaging and other fields. From mold processing to machinery and equipment are very picky, easy to start, difficult to do.

Due to the technical trend of light weight, good preservation, emphasis on heat resistance, pressure resistance and other functions, PET bottle of cosmetic packaging bottle has become the mainstream of today's cosmetics packaging. PET bottles have been used to package many beverages that need high temperature sterilization, such as flavored water, juice, dairy products, sports drinks, etc. PET bottles have become the main packaging materials for cosmetics containers. Due to its low environmental pollution and energy consumption, PET bottles gradually replace the traditional packaging materials in today's awareness of environmental protection. With its heat resistance, pressure resistance and other functions, it has recently replaced PVC bottles, aluminum cans, iron cans, glass bottles, etc., and has become a potential packaging material.

The strength and elasticity of PET are obviously higher than other raw materials. It is suitable to be used as cosmetic plastic container with thin wall, light weight and high strength. In recent years, it has become the main liquid and solid packaging container in China. In the application of drug packaging, the weight of PET bottle is only about 1 / 10 of glass bottle under the condition of the same charge volume; the capacity of PET bottle is 1.5 times of glass bottle with the same diameter. Pet can also be used to make transparent or opaque brown bottles with various colors and beautiful appearance.

There are four ways to improve the gas barrier performance of PET bottles: multi-layer composite structure made by multi-layer co extrusion technology; surface coating treatment; adding some gas capture agent; blending with other barrier materials. The multi-layer coextrusion technology has been successfully used at present. However, the improvement of barrier performance is small, and it is difficult to recycle and the cost is high. Surface coating is a new technology to improve the gas barrier performance of PET bottles. It can obtain very thin gas barrier film, which can effectively prevent gas molecules from passing through the wall of PET bottle, and solve the problem of recycling.

At present, some coating materials have been tested by practice, among which diamond carbon film (DLC) and silicon oxide are very popular materials in industry. Silicon oxide coating was used to improve the gas barrier property of PET film earlier than diamond carbon film. In the early 1980s, silicon oxide coatings were prepared by physical vapor deposition and chemical vapor deposition. However, due to the brittleness of SiO2 film, it is necessary to deal with it more complex in order to obtain the durable mechanical strength on pet surface. In recent years, some products of diamond carbon film (amorphous hydrocarbon) coating on pet surface have appeared in the market, and the gas barrier performance of PET bottles has been greatly improved.
